America, america

NYCO has a moving post about the direction of this country. She says,
And the unspeakable truth that no one dares yet say is that the America of the 20th century is gone, and will not be returning. It did not, of course, slip away overnight with George W. Bush. Perhaps within the Cold War itself were the seeds of the end of this way of life. We already know that, pretty much, about the factory jobs, and about our sense of impregnable security here at home (even if the reaction has been to panic and bluster instead of just bucking up). But our mighty legions, our supreme authority in international affairs - that, too? Say it isn't so.
It's going to be so difficult for people to see this... I'm afraid they won't see it. And our arrogance and recklessness may continue until all the progress of mankind and all the gifts of God are in utter ruin.
