What English teachers will do to you

Yesterday I was tutoring this high school sophomore. She mentioned that she read Ordinary People by Judith Guest for one of her summer readings. Interesting. I read that book in a course called "Young Adult Literature" in college. I said something about it, maybe that the setting is North Shore, or that I'm watching the movie for my special ed class of all things... and she said, "yes, that book has multiple limited omniscient view points."

I was totally baffled. Is that how people are taught to talk about books!! I know my own high school English teacher, much as I loved her, would have been very pleased at such nonsense.

Anyway, the film is better than the book. I love the last scene in particular. I had to say subhanaAllah. Not because of the director's skill, but because it was so beautiful.
